What Is EMDR?
EMDR is a specialized, evidence-based therapy designed to help the brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer feel overwhelming or intrusive. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not require you to repeatedly talk about painful experiences. Instead, it uses bilateral stimulation (BLS)—such as guided eye movements, tapping, or sounds—to activate the brain’s natural healing process.
Many people find that after EMDR therapy, their distressing memories no longer hold the same emotional charge, allowing them to feel more at peace and in control of their lives.

How EMDR Works
EMDR follows an eight-phase process, helping you gradually reduce distress and replace negative beliefs with healthier perspectives. Some key steps include:
- Identifying distressing memories or negative beliefs that may be contributing to your symptoms.
- Using bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sounds) to help your brain process these memories in a way that feels less overwhelming.
- Installing positive beliefs that allow you to move forward with greater confidence and emotional stability.
Conditions EMDR Can Help With:
PTSD & Complex PTSD (C-PTSD)
EMDR is one of the most effective therapies for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex PTSD. It helps process trauma in a way that reduces flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, and emotional distress, without requiring you to relive every detail of your experience.
Anxiety & Panic Attacks
If you struggle with constant worry, racing thoughts, or panic attacks, EMDR can help uncover and reprocess the root causes of your anxiety. Many clients experience relief as their triggers lose their intensity.
Depression
Depression is often linked to negative self-beliefs and past emotional wounds. EMDR can help address the underlying causes of low self-worth, guilt, or sadness, leading to a more positive and empowered mindset.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
OCD often involves intrusive thoughts and compulsions that feel impossible to control. EMDR helps desensitize triggers and reprocess underlying fears, allowing you to regain control over your thoughts and behaviors.
Grief & Loss
Losing a loved one can feel overwhelming, especially when grief is complicated by trauma, guilt, or unresolved emotions. EMDR can help you process grief in a healthy way, allowing you to honor your loss while finding emotional healing.
Eating Disorders & Body Image Issues
Many eating disorders stem from deep-seated beliefs about self-worth, trauma, or control. EMDR can help reprocess shame, guilt, and body-related traumas, reducing distress and promoting a healthier relationship with food and body image.
